"Philadelphia" head coach John Tortorella assessed the play of forward Matvei Michkov in the first month of the 2024/25 NHL season.

The Russian was named the league's top rookie in October.

"Even before Michkov arrived, I realised he had a competitive spirit. That doesn't surprise me. I didn't know much about how he operates without the puck, but Matvey has internalised a few things we tried to teach him at the beginning of the season. Michkov has done a good job considering he's a young guy who just got here, who's getting so much attention. He's doing very well."
Michkov was selected with the No. 7 pick of the 2023 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old Russian is spending his debut season in the league, the forward scored 9 (4+5) points in 12 games for the "Flyers".
